FORESTAL RÍO GRANDE

Premium Teak Growers

Guanacaste, Costa Rica

ABOUT US

FORESTAL RIO GRANDE
A Costa Rican company

Forestal Rio Grande S. A. (FRG) is a Costa Rican company located in the province of Guanacaste, dedicated to the planting, growing, harvesting, milling and selling of premium teak wood (Tectona grandis). Most of our farms are less than 60 km from the Port of Caldera.

FRG has more than 2 200 productive hectares of teak, ranging between 1 and 20 years old. Our goal is to export the best quality 30-year-old teak to the international market. However, because of our management regime, we have teak of different ages available for sale. The harvest of younger teak is necessary to allow the remaining trees the area needed for growth.

FRG started operations in 2002 and has grown by buying stands and planting new areas.

QUALITY TEAK

We believe that quality teak is a result of:

1. Location

The majority of our farms are located on the best production area of Costa Rica and are less than 60 km from the port of Caldera (on the Pacific coast). We are planting soils that were previously used mainly for cattle raising with the consequent gain in environmental services.

COSTA RICA

With an area of only 51,000 square km, it is considered on of the most biodiverse countries in the world. The country's land covers only 0.03% of the earth's surface, yet it contains nearly 6% of the world's biodiversity! Costa Rica has a privileged location, it is in the middle of America, serving as a natural corridor between North and South America. Its location is also strategic, as it has access to the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

Costa Ricans are very caring of the environment, this explains why more than 25% of the country's land is protected by the National Parks and Reserves's System.

Costa Rica has been independent since 1821 and since 1949 has no military forces. The elimination of the armed forces has helped Costa Rica gain a reputation for being a very stable democracy. This also allowed Costa Ricans to invest in other areas, such as education and health.
